The truth is, kitchen renovations can definitely vary in terms of length, depending on a number of factors.

In general, a kitchen remodel can take anywhere from a few weeks to several months depending on things like kitchen size, materials used, appliances installed, and availability of materials. In addition, kitchen renovations typically can be prolonged over custom work or any special orders of materials. Read below to learn some factors that will affect project length. Major Kitchen Remodel  Time Frame Projects

Lengthy: 3-6 months

If you are interested in doing a major remodel that will include changes in plumbing and electrical service locations, as well as new appliances, products, and finishes–this will be the longest timeline for your project. A major kitchen remodel is more than just a facelift for your kitchen, it’s an entirely new layout and design. Additionally, if granite countertops are part of your plan, the material selection itself makes the project longer because it needs to be fabricated and installed.

This type of complete kitchen remodel can be incredibly disruptive to daily life, and during this period you will likely not have access to your kitchen at all. It’s important to plan for how you will store and cook food during this time, as well as how you will handle doing the dishes. In addition, you should plan for how you will store your utensils, dishes, and countertop appliances, as you will have to remove these items from your kitchen entirely during construction.

Minor Kitchen Remodel  Time Frame Projects

Shorter Timeline: A few days or 6-12 weeks

A minor kitchen remodeling project is anything that doesn’t require adding to the existing kitchen space, increasing square footage beyond its original footprint, or moving major structural components, such as extending plumbing lines. The goal of minor kitchen remodels is to simply upgrade or replace appliances, countertops, cabinets, or flooring–but usually not all of the above. Minor kitchen remodels do not usually include electrical or plumbing changes, but can still make an enormous difference to how your entire house functions afterwards.

During this time, you might have limited access to your kitchen depending on what is being replaced. Be sure to plan ahead to have a makeshift sink, fridge, and potentially even counter space, as these things will likely be out of commission during the remodel.
